Custodial

The SCS Building Facilities team works closely with CMU’s contracted custodial service to help maintain all SCS owned spaces. We work as a direct liaison for the SCS community to field requests and complaints for restrooms, offices, classrooms/conference rooms, labs, and corridors/stairwells.

Certain types of issues require different areas of support. Please refer to the information below. If you have uncertainty for your request, please contact building@cs.cmu.edu for assistance.

Cleaning Expectations

Per the Custodial Services Performance Standards, these are the cleaning expectations:

Nightly

The following areas should have trash cans emptied, vacuuming/mopping, wiping surfaces on a nightly basis:

  • Classroom/Conference Rooms
  • Restrooms
  • Lounges/Kitchenettes
  • Common Areas

Weekly

The following areas should have trash cans emptied and vacuuming/mopping, on a weekly basis:

  • Offices
  • Labs
  • Stairwells

Annual

Submit request to building@cs.cmu.edu.

For all SCS Space:

  • Carpet shampoo
  • Floor scrubbing/waxing

Schedule by request:

  • Bulk trash pickup (requires charge string)
  • Paper recycling bin (requires charge string)

Restroom Support

Non-Urgent Issues

Non-urgent issues should be reported to building@cs.cmu.edu

  • Broken/inoperable dispensers, stocking issues, toilets or urinals, faucets, doors and partitions.
  • Overflowing trash, water hazards, general cleanliness/sanitary issues.
  • Deep cleaning issues, painting, structural issues, lighting, etc.

Urgent Issues

Urgent Building Issues should be reported to FMS Service Response at 412-268-2910.

Urgent Cleaning Issues should be reported to Custodial Service at 412-268-2036.

  • Requests that require immediate attention such as overflowing toilets/sinks, active leaks or general safety matters.
